Pica

"Cravings for ice and bizarre substances such as laundry starch and cigarette butts (a condition called pica) have been linked to an iron deficiency — even though none of these items contain significant amounts of iron."

The first time I heard this, I thought the person had said this about cravings for ice cream (something I thought was pretty normal for a pregnant lady). I am enjoying ice cream and Ritz crackers for a great salty-sweet combo. Not sure this is just a craving or merely indulging in whatever strikes me. And I'm not very good about getting the RDA of vegetables, but I'm set for fruit and I'm taking good vitamins. Their gel coating tastes like vanilla, they are a pretty shade of teal, and they have a component to counteract the side effects of iron. If only I could say the same about vegetables.

I crunched ice for 9 months with my second one. I would fill a fresh tray with water, let it freeze for about an hour, then sit and eat it right out of the tray. And I would do that 3-4 tiems a day. I loved ice.
